Interest rates to be decided in June - ECB's Villeroy

Governing Council of the European Central Bank (ECB) Member Francois Villeroy de Galhau stated on Monday, at the Emerging Markets Forum, that "decisive" monetary policy decisions will be made at the ECB meeting in June and that the bank will have an "active summer."

Villeroy underlined that the bank should "at least move towards the neutral rate," adding, however, that further steps to be taken will be implemented with "some optionality and gradualism" and will depend on "actual activity and inflation data."

He reiterated that the ECB will continue to "carefully monitor developments in the effective exchange rate" as the euro "that is too weak would go against our price stability objective."
