US closes mostly lower, Nasdaq extends losses

Major stock markets in the United States traded mostly lower at the close of the Monday session as Nasdaq 100 extended losses as rising inflation continues to cause uncertainty in the markets.

European Union revealed it has failed to achieve an agreement on the sixth package of sanctions against Russia on Monday. Meanwhile, Sweden and Finland confirmed to move forward with the NATO application, despite Russia expressing disapproval of the alliance's expansion to the region.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average index was up by 0.08% at the closing bell as Chevron Corporation gained 3.07%. Meanwhile, the Nasdaq 100 decreased by 1.16% with Datadog pulling the index down by 10.72%. The S&P 500 declined by 0.39% with Twitter falling by 8.10%.

The euro was 0.19% higher compared to the dollar, going for $1.04325 at 3:56 pm ET.
