US retail sales rise by 0.9% in April

Retail and food services sales in the United States observed a monthly increase of 0.9% in April, to come in at $677.7 billion, slightly below the analysts' forecasts, the country's Census Bureau stated in its report published on Tuesday.

Total sales for the period of three months ending April soared 10.8% compared to the corresponding time span a year ago. Meanwhile, retail trade sales added 0.7% on the month, and 6.7% on an annual comparison basis.

The Census Bureau revised March's headline figure to $671.6 billion.
