Erdogan: We cannot have terrorists in NATO

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan reiterated on Thursday that Ankara would say no to Finland and Sweden's entry into the North Atlantic Treaty Organizations (NATO) if they do not provide it with certain security guarantees.

Speaking to students at the Presidential National Library, Erdogan remarked that, as a security alliance, NATO "cannot accept the presence of terrorist organizations in it." He went on to repeat his accusations Finland and Sweden are "hosting terrorist organizations in their own countries" and added that Turkey cannot allow that to happen again as it did with Greece's accession to the bloc.

On the same occasion, Erdogan commented on Russia's military operation in Ukraine, reaffirming his attitude Turkey should continue to pursue a "balanced policy" between Moscow and Kiev. He added he has no intention to halt relations with either Russian President Vladimir Putin or his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky.
