Wall Street closes lower after weak data
United States stock exchanges closed in the negative territory on Thursday, following data reports on existing home sales and initial jobless claims that failed to match projections. Furthermore, the US announced it will send more weapons to Ukraine, the Senate passed a $40 billion Ukraine military and economic aid bill and Washington again voiced support for Finland's and Sweden's accession to NATO, seemingly diminishing chances of finding a peaceful solution to the Ukraine crisis soon.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average index closed with a 0.75% or a 237-point loss. The Nasdaq 100 decreased 0.44% at the close. Both indexes were pulled down by Cisco's 13.73% drop. The S&P 500 was 0.58% lower at the end of trading with Under Armour, its worst performer, tumbling 15.86%.
The euro was 1.21% up compared to the dollar, going for 1.05904 at 3:59 pm ET.
