Yoon: S. Korea makes 70% of chips used globally

South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol (pictured) said on Friday that his country produces 70% of memory chips used around the globe and is at the center of the world's semiconductor supply chain.

Speaking alongside his United States counterpart Joe Biden at a press conference at a semiconductor facility in South Korea, Yoon hailed the ongoing multi-decade cooperation between tech companies from the two countries and the global strategic alliance on semiconductors Washington and Seoul have forged.

Semiconductors are "national security assets for the future," Yoon underlined, adding that he looks forward to Biden's "support to incentives to be enjoyed by [South] Korean semiconductor companies when investing in the US" as well as to investments of American tech firms in South Korea.
