Consumer confidence in euro area rises in May

Consumer confidence in the Eurozone continued to increase in May, the European Commission estimated in its preliminary report published on Friday.

In the euro area, the indicator rose by 0.9 points compared to April's figure, while in the European Union it decreased by 0.4% points over the same time period. The figure thus stood at negative 21.1 points in the Eurozone and negative 22.2 points in the EU.

According to the report, the consumer sentiment remains well below its long-term average, while still recovering from March's figures.
