Biden, Yoon to consider expanded military drills

United States President Joe Biden and his South Korean counterpart, President Yoon Suk-yeol, said after their meeting on Saturday that the two countries will consider expanding military exercises around the Korean Peninsula over the "evolving threat" posed by North Korea.

"Both leaders commit to further strengthen deterrence by reinforcing combined defense posture and reiterate commitment to a conditions-based transition of wartime operational control," according to a joint statement jointly released by the White House and South Korea's Blue House.

The two leaders described Pyongyang's nuclear program as a "grave threat" to the peace and stability of Asia as well as the rest of the world, noting that their common goal is a "complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula."
