Sanctions should be lifted to avoid food crisis - Russia FM

Russia's Deputy Foreign Minister Andrey Rudenko suggested on Wednesday that to avoid a food crisis, sanctions imposed on Russia over the military operation in Ukraine should be lifted.

"A solution to the food problem requires a comprehensive approach, including the lifting of sanctions that have been imposed on Russian exports and financial transactions," stated Rudenko, while adding that Ukraine should also empty all ports where ships are anchored. He further asserted that Moscow "is ready to provide the necessary humanitarian clearance."

Earlier today, the UK Ministry of Defense stated that "significant supplies" of the grain remain "in storage, unable to be exported" due to the Russian blockade. Meanwhile, world leaders and governments continue to warn about the food crisis this could cause worldwide.
