US won't send weapons able to hit Russia - Biden

Washington will not give Ukraine long-range weapons that could strike the territory of Russia, United States President Joe Biden told reporters on Monday.

Russia's Security Council Deputy Chairman Dmitry Medvedev wrote on Telegram shortly thereafter that Biden's comment is "reasonable," as Moscow would have had to respond to direct attacks against the country. Russian military would then have to strike "the centers of these criminal decisions," he stressed, adding that "some of them are not located in Kiev at all."

Several Ukrainian officials have recently asked for multiple launch rocket systems to be delivered to their country, which fueled speculation that the US government may decide to send the weapons to eastern Europe. Last week, then-Pentagon spokesman John Kirby said that the Biden administration had not yet decided whether to agree to Kiev's request.
