No solution to food crisis without Russia, Ukraine - Guterres

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres stated on Wednesday that it is impossible to solve the food crisis without the return of the Russian Federation and Ukraine to the market.

Guterres told reporters in Stockholm, "the Russian invasion of Ukraine was a violation of its territorial integrity and a violation of the UN Charter," while stressing that "the war in Ukraine is also inflaming a three-dimensional global crisis – food, energy, and finance – that is pummeling the most vulnerable people, countries and economies."

Previously, Guterres tried to seek a deal with Russia, Turkey, and other countries to unlock Ukrainian food exports to world markets to prevent a potential global food shortage. However, Russian President Vladimir Putin has expressed that he is willing to solve the crisis only after the "politically motivated sanctions" are lifted.
