Sweden, Finland must stop supporting PKK - Erdogan

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan expressed his concerns about Sweden and Finland joining NATO in a telephone conversation with NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg on Friday, stressing that two Nordic countries should stop supporting Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) to join the alliance.

The Turkish president also questioned whether the Swedish and Finnish accession request to the alliance is based on "fair and legitimate grounds." Erdogan also added that both Stockholm and Helsinki should renounce support for terrorism, lift sanctions on Turkey, and in that way prove their solidarity with the alliance.

NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg reiterated that Turkey's expectations and requests must be respected, as Ankara is a "key ally" to the alliance.
