Johnson wins confidence vote among Tory MPs

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has survived the vote of no confidence among the Conservative Members of the Parliament (MPs), Conservative Private Members' (1922) Committee Chairman Graham Brady confirmed on Monday.

Out of 359 Tory MPs, 211 stated they have confidence in Johnson as leader of their party, while 148 said no. Johnson needed at least 180 votes against him to be removed from his position. Having won, he will remain the leader of the Conservative Party and the country's government and become immune from another vote of no confidence for a year.

Johnson faced the vote following his involvement in the so-called partygate case, which revealed the prime minister and certain members of his staff broke the rules of a nationwide lockdown active throughout 2020 in order to curb the spread of COVID-19.
