Fuel prices hit new records in UK - reports

Prices of petrol and diesel in the United Kingdom have reached their new respective historic highs, British media reported on Tuesday. A liter of petrol now costs 178.5 pence, while the price of one liter of diesel surged to 185.2p.

"The wholesale price of diesel is fast approaching 160p a [liter] which, when you add 7p retailer margin and [20%] VAT, would take the pump price over the £2 mark. We strongly urge the Government to take drastic action to help soften the impact for drivers from these never-before-seen pump prices," Simon Williams, a spokesman for RAC Limited, a UK automotive services company, told local news organizations.
