Ireland: UK's NI Protocol bill deeply damaging

Irish Foreign Minister Simon Coveney spoke to British Foreign Secretary Liz Truss on Monday and warned her that the bill aiming to unilaterally change parts of the Brexit agreement is "deeply damaging to relationships" between the United Kingdom and Ireland, as well as between the UK and the European Union.

Coveney added the legislation "marks a particular low point in the UK's approach to Brexit, especially as Secretary Truss has not engaged with the negotiations with the EU in any meaningful way since February... The UK's unilateral approach is not in the best interest of Northern Ireland and does not have the consent or support of the majority of people or businesses in Northern Ireland. Far from fixing problems, this legislation will create a whole new set of uncertainties and damage relationships."
