UK unemployment rate at 3.8% in quarter to April

The rate of unemployment in the United Kingdom stood at 3.8% in the three months to April, the Office for National Statistics revealed in its report on Tuesday. The figure marks a 0.2 percentage point decrease from the previous quarter.

The employment rate was estimated at 75.6%, up by 0.2 percentage points from the previous three-month period. Meanwhile, there were a record-high 1,300,000 job vacancies in the March-to-May period.

Average regular pay adjusted for price inflation fell by 2.2% on a yearly basis, while earnings in nominal terms increased by 4.2%. Including bonuses, average pay adjusted for inflation increased 0.4%, while nominal average weekly earnings climbed by 6.8%. The estimated economic inactivity rate fell by 0.1 percentage points to 21.3% in the February-to-April period.
