Amazon wants senators to oppose US antitrust bill - report

Amazon.com Inc. CEO Andy Jassy has contacted United States senators to influence their decisions about the American Innovation and Choice Online Act and oppose it, Politico reported on Friday, citing three unnamed sources briefed on the talks.

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer's spokesperson confirmed that he took Jassy's call but that he reaffirmed his support for the bipartisan antitrust bill. The piece of legislation aims to prohibit Big Tech companies' "self-preferencing" their own products at the expense of competitors and deliberately putting other firms' products or services in a disadvantageous position.

According to the report, Google LLC CEO Sundar Pichai intends to hold in-person talks with lawmakers next week, while Apple Inc. CEO Tim Cook met with senators last week.
