Norway plans to increase gas deliveries to EU

Norway and the European Union announced on Thursday, in a joint statement, that the former is planning to increase gas supply to the EU countries amid the current energy crisis.

Both parties agreed to "further strengthen the close cooperation in the field of energy," in order "to ensure additional short-term and long-term gas supplies from Norway, to address the issue of high energy prices," according to the joint statement.

Norway is the second-biggest oil and gas producer in Europe, right after Russia. The country currently delivers around one-quarter of the EU states’ gas consumption, the statement read.
