US markets close higher as Powell's House hearing concludes
Wall Street closed in the green on Thursday after Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell told Congress that a recession is not "inevitable," that inflation expectations are anchored and that the Fed can help restore the balance between supply and demand in the housing market.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average index closed with a 0.64% or a 194-point gain as Salesforce rose by 3.34%. The Nasdaq 100 increased 1.47% at the close pushed up by Datadog's 10.44% jump. The S&P 500 was 0.95% higher at the end of trading with Autodesk, its best performer, soaring 8.43%.
The euro was 0.34% lower compared to the dollar, going for 1.05304 at 3:59 pm ET.
