NATO leaders to invite Sweden, Finland to join - Stoltenberg

NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg announced on Tuesday that the leaders of the alliance will invite Sweden and Finland to formally join the group on Wednesday, calling the move a "historic decision."

The agreement reached at the NATO Summit in Madrid by Turkey, Sweden, and Finland has "paved the way" for Helsinki and Stockholm to join the alliance, according to Stoltenberg, revealing he is confident that the countries will "stand by the commitments in this memorandum of understanding."

Stoltenberg disclosed that Turkey will provide support for the Nordic countries' accession to the alliance, while the two countries will address Ankara's concerns, adding that "extradition of terrorist criminals to Turkey will take place within the framework of the rules of the European Convention."
