NATO expansion to Nordic 'does not matter' - Moscow

Russian Head of the upper chamber's commission for the protection of state sovereignty Andrey Klimov said on Tuesday the decision of Sweden and Finland to join NATO "does not matter" in the global strategic sense.

"Russia is such a powerful military and political power that all these states are of no importance," noted Klimov. He further elaborated that such a move will downgrade relations between Moscow, Helsinki, and Stockholm, explaining that the two countries had "benefits" over their military neutrality, but have now "gained problems for themselves" following the decision to join the alliance.

After settling the concerns over terrorist activity in the two Nordic countries, Turkey has signed a memorandum that has "paved the way" for the two states to join the alliance, making it a "historic decision" according to the NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg.
