S. Korea approves first domestic COVID vaccine

The South Korean government approved on Wednesday the use of a COVID-19 vaccine developed by domestic company SK Bioscience Co. in collaboration with the Washington University, making it the first authorized homegrown jab and taking a major step toward becoming self-sustainable when it comes to vaccine supplies.

The vaccine, known as SKYCovione or GBP510, was greenlighted by health authorities earlier this week, with the Food and Drug Safety Ministry delivering the ultimate decision today. SKYCovione passed all three phases of clinical trials on around 4,000 adults, mainly in the region, before SK Bioscience applied for its approval.

Citizens will be able to receive this COVID-19 jab in two doses at least four weeks apart from each other.
