Europe opens lower with German CPI data in focus

European stock exchanges opened in the red on Wednesday in anticipation of German inflation and European Union consumer confidence data, as well as public appearances by the European Central Bank policymakers, including ECB President Christine Lagarde. Traders will also monitor remarks Western leaders will make at the NATO summit in Spain.

The DAX contracted by 1.10% at 9:02 am CET as HelloFresh fell by 3.24% and led the losses at 9:04 am CET. London's FTSE 100 was 0.80% down at 9:00 am CET with Pearson, its worst performer, losing 3.88% at 9:02 am CET. The CAC 40 declined 1.08% at 9:00 am CET as Eurofins Scientific dropped 4.16% at 9:02 am CET.

The euro was down 0.27% against the dollar, selling for 1.04906 at 8:59 am CET. The British pound was flat in comparison to the greenback, going for 1.21822 at the same time.
