Russia's defeat needed for lasting peace in Europe - Truss

British Foreign Secretary Liz Truss said on Wednesday that it is "absolutely imperative that we secure Russia's defeat in Ukraine" as it is "the only way that we are going to achieve a lasting peace in Europe." She rejected the possibility of negotiating with Moscow while Russian troops are still in Ukraine, stating it would "bring a false peace and lead to further aggression in the future."

Speaking at the NATO summit in Madrid, Truss said the alliance must "think very carefully about the messages we're sending" to China. "With China extending its influence through economic coercion and building a capable military, there is a real risk that they draw the wrong idea, which results in a catastrophic miscalculation, such as invading Taiwan," she warned.
