Europe down at close after Lagarde remarks, data

Major European stock markets traded with losses at the Tuesday session's closing bell after European Central Bank President Christine Lagarde said that markets have a good understanding of ECB's efforts to curb inflation.

Furthermore, Germany's Federal Statistical Office said in a preliminary report that consumer prices in Germany are expected to observe an annual rise of 7.6% in June, below analysts' expectations.

The DAX lost 1.73% at the closing bell, with Covestro AG falling 4.39%, while the CAC 40 declined by 0.90%, with its worst performer, Renault SA, slipping 5.57%. The FTSE 100 traded 0.15% in the red, dragged down by British Land Company PLC's 8.66% plunge. The euro went down 0.48% against the dollar at 5:28 am CET to sell for $1.04693, while the British pound also weakened 0.52% against the greenback, going for $1.21228.
