US Supreme Court limits EPA's powers

The United States Supreme Court ruled on Thursday that the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) does not have the right to set standards for carbon emission in existing coal and gas power plants. The justices voted 6-3 for the decision, with Chief Justice John Roberts joining the conservative majority.

In the case of West Virginia v. the Environmental Protection Agency, the court limited the agency's powers under the Clean Air Act. The Biden administration's plan to combat climate change includes a pledge to reach net-zero emissions from power plants by 2035.
