SCOTUS rules 'Remain in Mexico' can end

The Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS) ruled on Thursday that the Biden administration can end the "Remain in Mexico" policy that had been put in place by the government led by former US President Donald Trump.

The program made asylum seekers wait in Mexico while their applications were being processed by US authorities. The states of Texas and Missouri initially sued the Biden administration after Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas terminated the policy and the case ultimately went to the Supreme Court.

Conservative Justices John Roberts and Brett Kavanaugh joined the three liberals on the court to form a 5-4 majority decision.
