Tokyo's consumer inflation slips to 2.3% in June

Consumer Price Index (CPI) for the Ku-area of Tokyo surprised expectations in June, expanding by 2.3% over the year to stand at 101.8, the Statistics Bureau of Japan's preliminary report released on Friday showed.

The headline figure did, however, go down by 0.1 percentage points when compared to the year-on-year data for the previous month, when the CPI calculated for the nation's capital marked a 2.4% improvement.

The CPI excluding fresh food and energy went down by 1.0% on a yearly basis, while the index excluding only fresh food added 2.1% compared to last year's data.
