Assange appeals UK extradition decision - report

WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange submitted an official appeal to the High Court in London regarding the United Kingdom's decision to approve his extradition to the United States, BBC reported on Friday.

On June 17, United Kingdom Home Secretary Priti Patel cleared Assange's extradition to the United States, where he is wanted by American authorities over documents leaked in 2010 and 2011, pertaining to the US's wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The same day, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova told reporters, at the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, that the United Kingdom's decision to extradite Julian Assange, co-founder of WikiLeaks, is a "complete disgrace."
