US BMW sales fall 18.3% in Q2 amid challenges

BMW in the United States announced Friday that sales in the second quarter of 2022 amounted to 78,905 vehicles, down 18.3% from the 94,144 vehicles sold in the same quarter of 2021.

The figure doesn't come without challenges, as sales "were constricted" by "the limitations of available inventory," said Sebastian Mackensen, President and CEO, BMW of North America.

Despite the above, there was a year-on-year increase of 15.1% in BMW X5 sales and 18.3% in BMW X7 sales. In addition, there was an overall improvement of 4.6% in the light truck segment compared to the second quarter of 2021. Altogether, sales of BMW Sports Activity Vehicles in the US were up 9.8% compared to the first half of 2021.
