White House divided over China tariffs - report

Members of the United States government are taking different stances related to the administration's future steps on tariffs against China, the Financial Times reported on Sunday, citing unnamed officials and experts with knowledge of the developments.

US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen and Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo are reportedly supportive of removing levies to help the government bring four-decade-high inflation down, while US Trade Representative Katherine Tai is concerned that such a move would damage Washington's negotiating position in other disputes with Beijing.

US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan is also reluctant to lower the tariffs first imposed by former US President Donald Trump, according to the report.
