Briton appeals against death sentence in DPR - report

The United Kingdom's citizen Aiden Aslin filed an appeal to the court, after being sentenced to capital punishment in the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic (DPR), for its involvement in the war in Ukraine, Russian Interfax reported on Monday.

Aslin, along with fellow British Shaun Pinner and Moroccan Brahim Saadoun, were sentenced to death last month for "mercenary activities" after being captured by Russian forces while fighting for Ukraine's army as foreigners. Both Pinner and Saadoun, according to Russian news agency TASS, lodged an appeal with the court on Friday.

Previously, DPR leader Denis Pushilin stated that there were no "grounds or prerequisites" for the release of two British soldiers captured while fighting for the Ukrainian army. Moscow previously argued that the death penalty should be retained in the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR), especially during times of war.
