Norway oil strike to escalate - union

Norwegian trade union Lederne announced on Monday that 382 of its members will be on strike from July 9.

The workers are employed at nine oil and gas platforms that belong to state-owned energy company Equinor ASA. The work stoppage will affect Gudrun, Oseberg East, Oseberg South, Heidrun, Kristin, Aasta Hansteen, Gullfaks A, Sleipner and Gullfaks C facilities.

Yesterday, when only 191 union members committed to the strike, the Norwegian Oil and Gas Association (NOG) estimated that the country would lose 130,000 barrels of oil production on a daily basis, "while gas production will fall by 292,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day or 13 percent of the total for the Norwegian continental shelf (NCS)."
