Hungary can't replace Russian fossil fuels - FM

Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto told CNN on Tuesday that the country is unable to replace Russia's supply of fossil fuels, calling it "physically impossible."

The country's foreign minister explained that the country requested an exemption from the European Union's sanctions package not because it did not want to join the restrictions against Moscow, but because there are no alternatives to supply the country with "enough fuel."

Previously, Budapest underscored that it stands against the Russian oil embargo as long as it jeopardizes Hungary's energy supplies, while Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban stated that a complete ban on Moscow's gas would "destroy" the European Union's economy.
