Labour urges Johnson to call new election

British Shadow Chancellor of the Exchequer Rachel Reeves (pictured) described on Wednesday a series of the Conservatives' resignations from the government and the party itself as a sign that Prime Minister Boris Johnson should call a new general election if he is "so confident the country still wants him" to lead it.

"The pound fell again yesterday. The pound is weak because the government is weak. And a weak pound means the costs of energy, the cost of petrol and diesel go up and up and up," she told BBC Radio.

The series was initiated by Chancellor of the Exchequer Rishi Sunak and Health Secretary Sajid Javid, who announced their resignations the previous day due to differences in views with Johnson on certain topics. After that, several more members of the Conservative Party confirmed they are leaving their positions.
