Turkey demands Nordic countries extradite PKK members

Turkish Minister of Justice Bekir Bozdag announced a letter was directed to Sweden and Finland on Wednesday demanding that the two countries extradite members of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) and the Fetullah Terrorist Organization (FETO). The move is prompted by the signed agreement between Ankara, Stockholm, and Helsinki during the NATO summit in Madrid.

However, the Finnish Foreign Ministry has previously stated that the country is unwilling to change its legislation to "please" Turkey's requests, emphasizing that the country would only hand over individuals if sufficient grounds exist. The day before, Helsinki and Stockholm signed the NATO accession protocol, waiting for the ratification by the alliance's member states to complete the process. The approval of Turkey's accession is critical in granting the countries membership in the defense alliance.
