Iran to seek permanent nuclear deal with the US

Iran's Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian expressed on Wednesday its desire to form a permanent and stable nuclear deal with the United States, during a visit from the Qatari Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani.

Former United States President Donald Trump pulled out of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) in 2018, but since the Biden victory in 2020, the negotiations have resumed. Even though last week's talks in Doha, mediated by the European Union failed, Iran wants new guarantees that the US will not reimpose sanctions and stop the negotiations again. "We are determined to seek a good, strong and lasting accord, and despite American claims," Amirabdollahian stated. "We have not raised any demands outside of the nuclear deal,"he added.

The Qatari foreign minister said that should be granted the full benefits it had in the 2015 deal and that talks should progress soon.
