Pound plunges to lowest level vs. dollar since March 2020

The pound sterling continued to drop further on Wednesday, falling to its lowest level against the American dollar since March 2020, as the country's Prime Minister Boris Johnson faces paramount pressure to step down following the resignation of the Chancellor of the Exchequer Rishi Sunak and Health Secretary Sajid Javid the day before.

The British prime minister dismissed the call for a general election, saying it is a "big mistake" as the country grapples with the effects of the Ukrainian conflict and the global pandemic, adding he intends to lead the country out of the crisis.

The pound lost 0.64% against the dollar, selling for $1.18790 at 2:29 pm CET.
