Europe opens mostly lower UK PM's resignation aftermath

Major stock markets in Europe opened mostly lower on Friday following British Prime Minister Boris Johnson's resignation, which took place the day before. According to later reports, his successor will be named in September. Meanwhile, the crisis in Ukraine continued, with the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) claiming Kiev's forces shelled its territories during the night.

The DAX opened 0.30% lower as Vonovia SE went down by 2.21%. The FTSE 100 declined by 0.18% at the opening, with Antofagasta PLC falling by 2.60%. Meanwhile, the CAC 40 stood flat.

The euro stood flat against the dollar at 8:58 am CET to sell for $1.01601. At the same time, the pound sterling lost 0.19% to the greenback to go for $1.19998.
