US initial jobless claims up by 9,000 to 244,000

The number of seasonally adjusted initial jobless claims in the United States increased by 9,000 to 244,000 in the week ending July 9, the Department of Labor revealed in its report published on Thursday. The 4-week moving average was up by 3,250 from the previous week's revised average to come in at 235,750.

The advance seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate for the week ending June 2 stood at 0.9%, a decrease of 0.1 percentage points from the previous week's unrevised rate. The advance number for seasonally adjusted insured unemployment fell by 41,000, standing at 1,331,000. The 4-week moving average went up by 5,250 from the previous week's revised average to 1,339,500.
