US opens mostly higher ahead of Fed's meeting, earnings

Major US stock markets opened mostly higher on Monday ahead of the release of the latest batch of earnings reports that are scheduled for this week and the Federal Reserve System’s (Fed) meeting. On July 26-27, Fed is likely to raise interest rates once again by 75 basis points after the country previously noted its consumer inflation hit a 40-year high.

The Dow Jones gained 0.23% at 9:30 am ET, with American Express going up by 0.57%, while the Nasdaq 100 traded flat at the same time. The S&P 500 was up by 0.17% at the opening as Freeport-McMoRan Inc added 2.50%. However, all three indexes traded in the red territory soon after the opening, with the Nasdaq still falling by 0.23% at 09:48 am ET, while the other two indexes turned to gains, once again trading in the green territory.

The euro increased by 0.36% against the dollar at 09:30 am ET, selling for $1.0247.
