Wall Street plunges at open amid earnings

Major stocks on Wall Street opened Tuesday's session below the flatline, as investors awaited quarterly earnings reports by technology giants Alphabet Inc. and Microsoft Corporation that are set for release after the closing bell, joined by Visa Inc. and Mondalez International Inc. Furthermore, data on the country's consumer confidence and new house sales will be revealed in the coming hours, while the prices of homes rose by 19.7% in May.

Earlier today, United Parcel Service Inc., General Motors, Raytheon Technologies, Coca-Cola Co., and McDonald's published their earning reports today. Across the pond, the European Union agreed to slash demand by 15% as the region faces possible disruptions of gas supply from Russia ahead of the winter season.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average and the S&P 500 decreased by 0.25% and 0.50% respectively at the opening bell, with Walmart Inc. pulling both indexes down by 8.24%. The Nasdaq 100 plunged by 0.80% with Zscaler dropping by 4.66%. The euro fell 0.70% against the dollar to change hands for $1.01458 at 09:28 am ET.
