Wall Street mostly higher, Nasdaq up over 100 points

Major stocks on Wall Street recorded small gains after the opening bell after the United States House Speaker Nancy Pelosi arrived in Taiwan, marking the first visit by a House leader to Taiwan in 25 years.

Meanwhile, PayPal, Starbucks, Airbnb, and Gilead are all set to report earnings after the market close.

The Nasdaq improved by 0.86% or 112 points at 12:25 pm ET, and the S&P 500 turned to gains after struggling for direction, gaining 0.42% at the same time. However, the Dow Jones Industrial Average plummeted by 0.12% a minute later, with Caterpillar Inc. pulling the index down by 3.35% following the release of its quarterly earnings report.

The euro lost 0.57% against the dollar, going for $1.02042 at 12:26 pm ET.
