US initial jobless claims up by 6,000 to 260,000

The number of seasonally adjusted initial jobless claims in the United States increased by 6,000 to 260,000 in the week ending July 30, the Department of Labor revealed in its report published on Thursday. The 4-week moving average was up by 6,000 from the previous week's revised average to come in at 254,750.

The advance seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate for the week ending June 23 stood at 1.0%, unchanged from the previous week's unrevised rate. The advance number for seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rose by 48,000, standing at 1,416,000. The 4-week moving average went up by 11,000 from the previous week's revised average to 1,375,250.
