Samsung sets target for smartphone sales in Germany

Senior marketing director at the German branch of Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd., Mario Winter, stated on Monday that the company is planning to sell 500,000 folding smartphones in that European country in 2022.

"This is a milestone for us," he told the German Press Agency, noting that Samsung sold 180,000 folding smartphones in Germany in 2021. The new gadgets, expected to be presented at Samsung's event on Wednesday, include a smartphone-sized Galaxy Flip and Galaxy Fold, which can expand to the dimensions of a tablet.

The South Korean company hopes to achieve its goal and broaden its market impact as similar enterprises hailing from China, such as Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd., are under sanctions imposed by the United States. More recently, it was reported Germany is planning to ban components from Chinese mobile networks as they are found to be "untrustworthy."
