Hamada named defense min. in Japan cabinet reshuffle

Japan's Prime Minister Fumio Kishida reshuffled his cabinet on Wednesday, naming Yasukazu Hamada as the country's new defense minister.

Hamada is replacing Nobuo Kishi, the younger brother of former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe who was assassinated in July. Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Yoshimasa Hayashi and Finance Minister Shunichi Suzuki kept their positions following the reshuffle.

The reshuffle came amid Kishida's declining approval ratings over some of his cabinet members' connections with the Unification Church, which Abe's killer blamed for causing his mother's bankruptcy.
