N. Korea announces victory in COVID-19 fight

North Korea declared on Thursday that it has come out victorious in its fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, according to Korean Central News Agency (KCNA).

During a national meeting on anti-epidemic measures, North Korean leader Kim Jong-un stated that the country will "lower the quarantine level from the maximum emergency, which has been in operation since May 12, to normal," for the first time in 91 days. Nevertheless, Kim cautioned that the country should still stay on alert as "the risk of infectious disease transmission" has not died down completely.

Kim Yo-jong, the North Korean leader's sister, accused South Korea of bringing the virus into the country, adding that should "the enemy continue to do dangerous things that can introduce viruses into our Republic, we will respond by eradicating not only the virus but also the South Korean authorities."
