US initial jobless claims up by 14,000 to 262,000

Initial jobless claims in the United States for the week ending August 6 increased by 14,000 from the previous week to 262,000, the Department of Labor said in its latest report on Thursday. The forecast figure was 263,000. The previous week's claims were revised down from 260,000 to 248,000. The 4-week moving average was 252,000, an increase of 4,500 from the previous week's revised average.

Meanwhile, the insured unemployment rate was 1% for the week ending July 30, unchanged from the previous week and came to 1,428,000, up by 8,000 from the previous week. The 4-week moving average was 1,399,250, rising by 23,750 compared to the previous week.
