Europe closes mostly lower as Ukraine crisis extends

Major stock market indexes in Europe closed mostly lower on Thursday as the conflict in Ukraine continued, with the activities surrounding the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) on the part of both Moscow and Kiev becoming a new source of concern for the international community. Meanwhile, the United States revealed a weekly rise in initial jobless claims and an annual increase in producer prices, indicating signs of a deepening crisis.

The DAX closed 0.07% lower as Covestro AG decreased by 3.52%. The FTSE 100 fell by 0.49%, with GSK PLC plunging by 9.26%. The CAC 40, on the other hand, went up by 0.25% as Wordline SA advanced by 3.28%.

The euro gained 0.24% to the dollar to sell for $1.03256 at 5:28 pm CET. At the same time, the pound sterling stood flat against the greenback to go for $1.22105.
