Zelensky asks for faster reaction on nuclear plant crisis

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky urged for a "faster and tougher reaction" by the international community to the Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant situation in his evening address on Thursday, calling that Russian forces' recent actions around the plant "the biggest crime."

"Russia once again hit the bottom in the world history of terrorism, no one else so obviously used a nuclear power plant to threaten the whole world," said Zelensky. The Ukrainian president explained only the complete withdrawal of the Russian forces from the area and the resumption of full-fledged control of Ukraine over the nuclear power plant will it restore safety in Europe.

In a previous statement, Kiev demanded that an international delegation led by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) visit the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, highlighting the fact that "Russian occupiers violated all seven basic principles of nuclear safety and security" as outlined by the IAEA.
